Philo of Alexandria
Philo was a wealthy first century Jew who lived in Alexandria of Egypt. Philo's writings provide very important insight into how hellenized (Greek-speaking and culturally Greek) Jews read the Hebrew Bible. Philo wrote extensively on the first five books of the Old Testament and a wide variety of other topics. His writings give us our most important example of how elite Jews outside of Palestine interacted with Greek philosophy and culture.
