This very broad collection of documents includes many writings from Christian writers who wrote both in their own names and in the names of other well-known Christians. It includes writings addressed to both Christians and non-Christians. It includes writings on a wide variety of topics and in a variety of styles. The common bond of these documents is that they speak about issues of concern to the Christian church from the first century through the early middle ages. Many of these documents are important primary sources for understanding the development of Christian thought (particularly the strains of Christian thought that contributed to the development of the "Great Church" which produced the classic creeds of Christianity).
