Edict of Milan
This edict was issued in 313 by the Emperor Constantine after his embrace of Christianity and made Christianity a legal religion in the Roman Empire for the first time in history. Constantine later called the first ecumenical council of early Christianity in Nicea in 325. That council produced the Nicene Creed, the most important unifying document for classical Christianity.
