Remembering
Extinct
Species

Passenger Pigeon
This species was once one of the
most common birds in North America. Through overhunting and inattention to
environmental needs, it became extinct in the early 20th century.

Carolina Parakeet
This bird was the only true
parakeet indigenous to North America. Habitat destruction lead to its
extinction.

Ivory-Billed Woodpecker
This bird once graced the forests
of the southeastern United States. It has nearly disappeared from the US
(with the exception of a single sighting in AR). Its chances of
survival at this point are extremely slight, but perhaps we can bring it
back from the brink.
